Blind details

For a blind braille reader, the full-size 6 versus the Mini is a cells-versus-weight decision: 32 cells shows a much longer line of braille at once than the Mini's 20, which matters for reading fluency and for editing documents without constant panning, while still weighing under two pounds. The Android base matters as much as the braille: email, web, and video meetings run on the device itself, and the Perkins keyboard means input is as fast as your braille, not hunt-and-peck on a touchscreen. Before buying, confirm your funding route — this is a buy-through-a-dealer purchase, and vocational rehabilitation, a school, or an employer usually pays — and confirm which apps your work actually needs, since a braille display paired with a phone covers some of the same ground for far less.

Honest caveats: At $4,995 this is a major purchase, and the manufacturer's list price has been quoted higher ($5,895) — the $4,995 figure is LowVisionSupply's current listing, so confirm it at checkout. It is a braille-first device: if you do not read braille, a phone with a screen reader covers the same ground for far less. A newer BrailleSense 7 has been announced in some markets, so ask the dealer whether the 6 remains the right buy or whether a newer model is coming to the US channel.
