Smart Home — one camera, the whole room

Wyze Cam Pan v3

The verdict

A pan-tilt camera is a better blind-shopper buy than a fixed camera for one reason: one camera watches the whole room. The Pan v3 pans 360 degrees and tilts, follows motion automatically, and talks — two-way audio lets you listen in and speak through the camera from your phone, and it sends motion and sound alerts (including smoke and CO alarm sounds) as phone notifications.

Wyze Cam Pan v3 — about $36 (list $44.98) · ≈4.3/5 from ~33,500 reviews on Amazon · the pan-and-tilt camera that covers a whole room for the price of a dinner out.

That makes it genuinely useful as ears around the house: hear the dog barking at the back door, check whether the kids got home, or listen for a package delivery without walking to the window. It works indoors and out (IP65 weather resistant) and costs a fraction of the big-name cameras.

The buying decisions are small and concrete. The camera is wired, not battery — it needs an outlet and, for outdoor use, the separate Wyze Outdoor Power Adapter. Local recording needs a microSD card (up to 256GB, sold separately), which is the way to avoid any subscription: without a card or Cam Plus, you get event snapshots, not continuous recording. The first three months of Cam Plus are bundled, so decide before the trial ends whether you want the subscription or the card — the card is the one-time purchase that keeps recording free forever.

Honest caveats: the Wyze app's screen-reader quality is unverified, and aiming a pan-tilt camera, setting detection zones, and reading the live view are visual tasks — budget a sighted helper for setup, then run it on alerts and audio. At 1080p it is not the sharpest camera Wyze sells (the fixed Cam v4 is 1440p), but for listening, alerting, and covering a room, resolution is not the deciding spec. As of October 2026, the street price was around $36.
