Smart Home — the voice-first room speaker

Sonos Era 100

The verdict

No visual setup is required for the sound: Trueplay on Android uses the speaker's mic, and on iPhone it uses the phone's mic, walking the room for you. Two angled tweeters plus a mid-woofer give real stereo from one cabinet, and a second unit pairs for stereo or rear surround — so the shopper question is room count, not specs on a screen.

Sonos Era 100 — about $199 · ≈4.4/5 from 2,816 Amazon reviews · voice-first by design.

Specs

  • Sonos Voice Control and Alexa built in
  • AirPlay 2
  • Wi-Fi plus Bluetooth
  • Trueplay tuning that uses the speaker's own mic to tune itself to the room

Blind details

For a blind shopper, the buying checks are voice control and placement: it answers to voice, it streams from any phone, and the sound fills a room from a single box. The mic-free Era 100 SL (about $149 on sale) is the separate variant for privacy-minded buyers.

Honest caveats: setup requires the Sonos app on Wi-Fi first — Bluetooth alone will not start it — and the touch controls are a capacitive slider with no tactile buttons, so volume control is by voice or app, not by feel. As of October 2026 the list price was $199.
