Google Nest Hub (2nd Gen)
The verdict
Two genuine wins: no camera — a real privacy advantage for a bedroom device — and free contactless sleep sensing with no wearable to charge. It's also a Matter/Thread border router, so it anchors a smart home that keeps growing.
Google Nest Hub (2nd Gen) — about $90–$100 · 4.1/5 — and here's the honest blind-shopper read: fully voice-operable, so the screen is optional. Timers, music, smart-home control, calendar readouts, recipes read aloud — “OK Google” is the whole interface for a blind user, and it works from across the room.
The caveats: the hardware is from 2021 and feels sluggish next to newer displays, there's no video calling, and the single speaker is only adequate. Buy it as a voice terminal and smart-home hub, not as a media center.
