Smart Home — the voice-run thermostat

ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced

The verdict

The blind-shopper case for the Enhanced is that almost nothing about it requires looking at it. The thermostat itself has a touchscreen, but the real control surface is your voice and your phone: it works with Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant, and the ecobee app handles scheduling, temperature changes, and energy reports.

ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced — about $199.99 · ≈4.4/5 from ~3,500 reviews on Amazon · the mid-tier smart thermostat that saves on heating and cooling without asking you to learn a new gadget religion.

Set it once with a sighted helper if the app gives you trouble, then run it by voice from then on — 'set the temperature to 72' is the whole interface most days. It also supports SmartSensor room sensors (sold separately) so a cold bedroom stops being overruled by a hallway thermostat.

Before you buy, check the two things that actually decide whether this works in your house: your HVAC system needs to be a standard 24VAC setup, and you likely need a C-wire — ecobee includes a Power Extender Kit for homes without one, and the app walks through wiring step by step. Listen for that in reviews: buyers who had a smooth install almost always mention the app guidance, while the unhappy ones usually hit a wiring surprise. It is Energy Star certified and ecobee claims up to 26% annual savings on heating and cooling, which is a real number only if you actually use the scheduling and home/away features.

Honest caveats: the wall unit's touchscreen and on-device menus are sight-only, so this is a voice-and-app thermostat, not a tactile one — if your Wi-Fi or voice assistant goes down, changing the temperature by touch is awkward. The SmartSensor that makes multi-room comfort work is an extra purchase, and the Enhanced skips the Premium model's built-in air-quality monitor and radar occupancy sensing. As of October 2026, $199.99 is the list price; it drops during sale events, so there is no reason to pay more than list.
