Kitchen — grind by click, not sight

Baratza Encore ESP Coffee Grinder

The verdict

Baratza Encore ESP — about $199.95 · 4.5★ from 3,000+ reviews · honest blind-shopper read: the grind adjustment is a twist-hopper with tactile detents — you feel the clicks between fine and coarse, no display needed. The front pulse button is physical, and it's loud enough that you hear exactly when it's grinding.

The ESP variant is tuned for espresso as well as drip; 40 grind settings, small footprint, and Baratza sells every part individually — a repairable grinder instead of a disposable one.

At $200 it's double the basic Encore's price; pay it only if you make espresso. For drip or French press, the standard Encore costs less and grinds just as well. Either way, skip any grinder with a touchscreen timer.
