2. Tactile classics — chess, checkers, backgammon, dominoes

Tactile & braille chess

Tactile & braille chess — tactile sets $26–$30 (Braille Superstore, LS&S, Independent Living Aids) · wooden tactile set $38.95 · braille sets with grid coordinates $40–$65 (Braille Superstore, Etsy, ChessHouse).

Raised light squares, pegged pieces that stay where they’re put, a tactile mark telling white from black. The braille editions add grid coordinates so positions can be read and recorded by hand. How to choose: the ~$30 plastic tactile set and the ~$40 braille set play the same game — pay for wood or braille coordinates if you’ll use them, not by default. The toy department’s family shelf carries the $39.50 Sharper Vision set; this is the wider field.
