JBL Go 4 Portable Bluetooth Speaker

The verdict

IP67 dust-and-waterproof, 7-hour playtime (plus 2-hour Playtime Boost), a carabiner clip for a bag, and Auracast multi-speaker linking if you buy two. A pocketable speaker that survives a rainstorm.

JBL Go 4 Portable Bluetooth Speaker — $34.95–$49.95 · 4.6★ (~20,000 reviews) — and here's the honest blind-shopper read: physical buttons on the unit — power, Bluetooth, play/pause — fully operable by feel with no app needed. Pairing is one long-press you can learn in ten seconds.

The trade-offs: 7 hours is short next to bigger speakers, and the JBL Portable app's EQ is screen-dependent — what you hear out of the box is what you get. At the $34.95 deal price, that's an easy yes.
